On the Solitary Wave Pulse in a Chain of Beads
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the shape of solitary wave pulses that propagate in an infinite chain of beads initially in contact with no compression. For this system, the repulsive force between two adjacent beads is proportional to the pth power of the distance of approach of their centers with p = 3 2 . It is known that solitary wave solutions exist for such a system when p > 1. We prove extremely fast, double-exponential, asymptotic decay for these wave pulses. An iterative method of solution is also proposed and is seen to work well numerically.

Numerical investigation of free surface flood wave and solitary wave using incompressible SPH method
Simulation of free surface flow and sudden wave profile are recognized as the most challenging problem in computational hydraulics. Several Eulerian/Lagrangian approaches and models can be implemented for simulating such phenomena in which the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) is categorized as a proper candidate. The incompressible SPH (ISPH) method hires a precise incompressible hy...
متن کاملCrossing of identical solitary waves in a chain of elastic beads.
We consider a chain of elastic beads subjected to vanishingly weak loading conditions, i.e., the beads are barely in contact. The grains repel upon contact via the Hertz-type potential, Vinfinitydelta(n), n>2, where delta> or =0, delta being the grain-grain overlap. Our dynamical simulations build on several earlier studies by Nesterenko, Coste, and Sen and co-workers that have shown that an im...
متن کاملComplexition and solitary wave solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional dispersive long wave equations
In this paper, the coupled dispersive (2+1)-dimensional long wave equation is studied. The traveling wave hypothesis yields complexiton solutions. Subsequently, the wave equation is studied with power law nonlinearity where the ansatz method is applied to yield solitary wave solutions. The constraint conditions for the existence of solitons naturally fall out of the derivation of the soliton so...
متن کاملInvestigating the Amount of Forces Caused by Solitary Waves on Coastal Walls Using OpenFOAM Software
Coastal walls (dyke) are one of the methods of protecting the coast against coastal erosion and destructive forces of waves. The purpose of this study is to simulate the wave collision with the coastal dyke and compare the results with the laboratory model. Open FOAM open source software and K-ω SST turbulence model were used to simulate the amount of wave consumed by the coastal dyke. Taking i...
متن کاملIncompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations on free surface flows
The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...
